I created the BOPPPS Lesson Planner as an organizational tool for participants in the Instructional Skills Workshop Online. Participants were asked to use the BOPPPS model to plan an online lesson for other ISWO participants (the learners) to complete). The mini-lessons are intended to take, at most, 1.5 hours for the learner to complete, which is why time is emphasized on the planner.  To encourage participants to pay special attention to knowledge construction and inquiry-based learning, the participatory learning component has the most room for detail. Another unique feature of this online BOPPPS lesson planner is the consideration of instructor facilitation planning and learner resources in addition to participation. These participation and facilitation components align with the Communities of Inquiry model (social presence and teacher presence) by Garrison and Vaughan (2013).

Impact:

Out of 15 participants in the 2017 ISW-O, 13 participants found both the BOPPPS Lesson planner and the feedback they received on their plan to be “Very Useful”.  One participant sought my consultation on a lesson design over a year later with a BOPPPS lesson planner in hand.
